Original artwork description:

Hurricanes are something we try to learn to live with here in Florida. Most recently, it was Irma and then Dorian, but now Ian has devastated southwest Florida, especially Cape Coral and Naples, among many other communities there and throughout the state. We take it seriously; we get as prepared as we can, and then we hope and pray for the best. We are especially grateful for the kindness, support and help of our friends and neighbors, as well as help that has poured in from other states and from around the world. We take so much for granted—life itself, food, electricity, a roof over our heads, etc.—and we know that those of us who were spared, this time, can at least help to ease the burden on those who are suffering, to let them know that they’re not alone in this. This painting began as a watercolor collage, which was mounted on canvas, and then overpainted in oils. Hanging hardware is already installed, and a satin varnish for protection has been applied.

Materials used:

watercolor collage, overpainted in oil on canvas
