Original artwork description
"Visitation" captures the quiet poetry of a Provencal street (some may recognize St. Paul lez Durance), where colour, light, and architecture come together in moments of stillness. The narrow Rue Grande draws the eye toward a church building, its arched bell niches rising gently above the rooftops. Bold facades in sun‑washed blues, yellows, and warm neutrals line the street, their geometric shapes creating a rhythmic interplay of shadow and form. The deep cobalt sky is punctuated by a single drifting cloud. Something unusual is happening and the priest and a housewife have come out to see. My original sketch had a flying rhinoceros, but I realized that even a cloud might be considered unusual in this part of the world. Ironically the rain pelted down when I was finishing this piece, mais je m'en fou.
This work celebrates the charm and timelessness of southern architecture. It’s a piece that brings warmth, escapism, and a touch of Mediterranean magic to any interior.
