Artwork description
Photographed in the City of London, "Vertigo" examines the dense verticality of one of the world’s most architecturally ambitious financial districts. The image looks upward from the narrow streets between several contemporary towers, capturing the moment where glass, steel, and engineered geometry converge toward a single point of light. Stripping the scene to monochrome reveals the architecture’s essential geometry — the rhythm of façades, the repetition of vertical lines, and the interplay between reflective surfaces and the void of the sky. The result is a study in controlled perspective, where the built environment becomes an abstract field of converging vectors.
Rather than presenting the city as a recognisable skyline, the photograph isolates the architectural language that defines it: precision‑engineered cladding systems, sheer vertical planes, and the spatial compression created by London’s evolving high‑rise core. The upward perspective exaggerates the scale and proximity of the towers, creating a sense of spatial distortion that mirrors the experience of standing at street level among these structures. “Vertigo” transforms a familiar urban setting into an exploration of height, density, and the psychological impact of contemporary architecture — a reminder that the city’s most compelling forms often reveal themselves when we look directly into the geometry above us.
This piece is printed directly onto premium Aluminium Dibond, selected for its rigidity, longevity, and immaculate surface, which is perfect for deep tone black and white images. It is finished in an elegant 10mm aluminium Artbox frame to give the piece a modern, clean, sculptural presence.
