The piece presents a delicate, luminous composition of wildflowers, grapes, figs and citrus in soft lavender, pink and yellow tones. The transparency of the watercolour and the fluid brushwork create a romantic, Mediterranean atmosphere, inspired by floral still lifes and the natural beauty of small everyday details.

An autumn still life rendered in transparent watercolour, with plenty of paper left showing and the edges of each wash left to find their own way.

At the centre, a bunch of purple grapes spills from a stemmed goblet, surrounded by open figs (their garnet flesh flecked with white), a yellow quince and a few small red berries. Behind them rise broad-petalled flowers in violet and mauve, their yellow centres drawn with the tip of the brush, along with sprigs of lavender and tiny yellow blossoms.

Everything moves within a palette of violets, mauves and pale yellows that brush against one another without ever turning muddy. Along the bottom edge the paint has been allowed to drip, and those trickles become part of the painting.
