Artwork description:

For most of my young life I loved fashion, I even studied fashion design and illustration at college after leaving school. But as the world moves forward fashion has become less about innovation and originality and more about mass consumerism, throw away fashion and profit. The depressing quantity of clothing chains churning out the same types of clothing meant to be worn for a brief instance then thrown into the environment horrifies me daily.
As a bystander watching this insanity continue my only way to protest is by using my creativity; so in this rather dystopian fashion type illustration I wanted to portray as many dressed figures as I could fit on a large sheet of paper. All of them indistinguishable by the fact that I decided to colour them in shadowy transparent grey and dressed in items of throwaway clothing. Each is different from the other but also indistinct in their sameness.
Please be aware that every one of my prints in this series contains hours of work. From cutting all the tiny facial features into Lino to the items of clothing these are individually printed by hand and take many failed attempts before getting a whole piece of artwork just right. It’s a labour of love! And as a consequence I will be making this a very limited edition of only 8 and they will each be unique.

Materials used:

Somerset satin 250gsm and oil based inks
