Original artwork description:

Portrait of Antonio Gades (1936 - 2004), Spanish dancer and great flamenco performer (20th century). In the painting it is interpreted in Art Deco style to enhance the rawness and drama of the moment, taken from the film “Carmen story ”(1983), directed by Carlos Saura, from which the work is inspired: Gades falls in love with a dancer he has chosen for the ballet staging on Carmen. The girl first reciprocates, then tires of him. When Antonio sees himself betrayed, he kills her. Expressionism and realism styles are also blended in my work, in which I captured the essence of performance and drama. I used tempera to bring warmth and intensity, and to create an image that is both vivid and reflective, in which the strength and passion of the human spirit flows. This painting releases an energy that can furnish and enliven any space with its intense and intriguing presence.

Materials used:

tempera and acrylic on canvas cardboard
