To the Atlantic Ocean
French lavender blue sky,
Jade and subtle turquoise sea,
Standing back from the ledge of Speke’s mouth waterfall,
A rugged cliff side and sea grasses,
A wild strong wind.
Words and feelings of my recent holiday experience in late May staying at Hartland and this scene was inspired at Hartland point , North Devon.
Original impressionist watercolour painting on textured, cold pressed Fabriano watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb.
I created this at Coppingers smugglers cottage , Galsham farm, Hartland.
I used my Chinese brush made of goats hair for the wet on wet sporadic washes for the sky and sea . I dashed the paint on wet paper leaving areas dry, where I needed the light with soft blending in the sky and the waves.
I then used different shades for sea grasses, using a fan brush and scraping out the paint with my nail. I let the sky, sea and grasses dry and then went over the cliff patterns that I fainting put on previously to define the crevices and highlights of mustard yellow green with earthy pink, where the sea pinks had changed colour.
I noticed that Summer had truly come early here and I had found a very special place by the dramatic Ocean.
Textured watercolour paper Fabriano 300gsm 140lb, fan brush, Chinese brush, sable hair brush, filbert brush, Windsor and Newton watercolours,
