Original artwork description:

“The Unforgiven Prisoner” is a mixed-media artwork created on Colvin & Co Artists' A3 Cartridge Paper Pad, combining fragments of vintage book pages with acrylic paints, acrylic markers, and black ink.

This powerful piece portrays an emaciated figure — a prisoner from a German concentration camp during World War II. The haunting presence glows with a neon, almost spiritual aura, symbolising the fragile boundary between life, memory, and despair.

A small red triangle marked with the letter “P” identifies him as a Polish political prisoner. At first, the figure appears terrifying, but on closer look, the viewer discovers that it is fear itself that consumes him — frozen in a silent scream.

Through layered textures and symbolic colour, this work reflects on human suffering, resilience, and the unspoken weight of history.
