Original artwork description
The scene evokes a central Amsterdam street, near the Leidseplein district — areas where older merchant houses now host cafés, small restaurants, and shops.
The stepped gable at the roofline is a hallmark of Dutch Renaissance architecture, common in Amsterdam’s houses. The brickwork with pale mortar joints and large sash windows is typical of Amsterdam’s canal districts, where light was prized in deep, narrow interiors.
Texture has been added to create extra depth. The canvas is 0.5 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
