The Spine of Time (2026) Original Sculpture by güngör yüksel

The Spine of Time is a one-of-a-kind contemporary steel sculpture that explores the invisible relationship between memory, endurance, and the passage of time. Constructed from individually cut and hand-welded steel strips, the work transforms rigid industrial material into a fragile yet resilient human presence.

The elongated vertical structure evokes the image of a spine—the central axis that supports both the body and the metaphorical weight of human experience. The fragmented steel bands appear to shift and dissolve, suggesting the erosion of identity by time while simultaneously revealing the inner strength that remains. The small abstract head reinforces the contrast between permanence and impermanence, solidity and vulnerability.

Every weld, oxidation mark, and surface texture is intentionally preserved, celebrating the honesty of the material and the physical process of its creation. Rather than concealing the marks of fabrication, the sculpture embraces them as part of its narrative, allowing light and shadow to animate the open structure from different viewing angles.

Created entirely by hand in my studio, this original artwork belongs to my ongoing exploration of industrial materials as a language for expressing human emotion and psychological states. It is designed as a statement piece for collectors of contemporary, abstract, and minimalist sculpture.
