The Shepherd (2022)Acrylic painting
by Emmanuel Akolo

£2,547.6

I painted The Shepherd to honor the silent, immense weight a man naturally carries for his loved ones. The work features a figure wrapped in a heavy, dark, puffer jacket—a visual metaphor for the protective layers and many burdens men must shoulder in their daily lives. Against a brilliant, saturated yellow backdrop that suggests a world demanding constant energy, the subject’s intense, direct gaze challenges the viewer to look beyond the surface of his outward strength.

The architectural elements of the two closed doors in the background symbolize the barriers and responsibilities that a man must often navigate or guard. By using a bold, high-contrast palette of deep blacks against radiant yellow, I aim to show that the work of a "shepherd" is both isolating and luminous. This piece celebrates the quiet, resilient nature of masculine duty, recognizing that the heaviest burdens are often those carried out of deep love and necessity.
