Original Surreal Oil Painting, 40 x 30 inches (101.6 x 76.2 cm). Large symbolic desert portrait on gallery-wrapped canvas.

«Les graines d'une obsession”/“The seeds of an obsession”

This painting explores the psychological weight of a thought that refuses to let go—a moment when a single episode, memory, or emotion becomes so intrusive that it dominates the inner landscape. The work captures the experience of mental fixation: a state in which frustration turns into a loop of obsessive reflection, and the mind becomes both the place where the disturbance develops and the space in which it remains trapped.

The large head emerging from the desert sand embodies this engulfing state. Half-buried yet monumental, it suggests a mind overwhelmed, unable to free itself from the thought lodged within it. The face’s silent scream conveys the tension between internal turmoil and outward stillness. The tree growing from the head extends this metaphor: what begins as a single troubling idea takes root, branches outward, and grows beyond our control.
Nearby, the smaller figure walks with his back to the viewer, carrying a branch as he moves through the barren landscape. This figure introduces a quiet counterpoint to the central head. He represents the part of the self that tries to continue forward—still burdened by a fragment of the same thought, but attempting to reclaim movement and distance. His presence suggests that even within a seeming psychological desert, there is the possibility of perspective, of stepping away, however slowly, from what has taken root inside us.
Together, these elements form a visual meditation on frustration, obsession, and the struggle to escape the thoughts that occupy us. The painting invites viewers to consider the moments when the mind becomes its own landscape, shaped by forces both internal and inescapably human.

The painting is created on a 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) gallery-wrapped canvas and the sides are painted, so it can be displayed without a frame.

If desired, the artwork can be beautifully presented in a floating frame (also called a tray frame). This type of frame is specifically designed for gallery-wrapped canvases and creates a small gap around the painting, giving the artwork a clean, elegant “floating” appearance.

Floating frames are widely used in galleries and allow the full depth of the canvas to remain visible while adding a refined finished look.
