The Runner is the first in my series 'Runners'. It is an image of a free (escaped?) dog that I had in my mind for a long time. Had I dreamt it? I don't always know where my art comes from. In this series, I worked with images that look like scenes from a film. I don't know what the 'real story' is or what will happen ... Even I don't always know what emotion is involved. Sometimes 'my' dog seems overjoyed and free, sometimes he seems terrified. Both emotions fit with being free and let go. It even felt important not to specify cause and effect, it had to be an open story. It was surprising to hear during the exhibition that the public felt the same way and that everyone wanted to create his/her own story ...
Made with an acrylic underpainting and oil paint. It is a very colourful work with expressive splashes and smooth brushstrokes. Varnished for protection against UV light. Signed on the front and with an iron thread attached at the back for hanging.
