True story.
I've spotted this scene while strolling through a small town on Laotian side of Mekong many years ago. This nice small carousel set up inside the walls of a beautifully decorated Buddhist temple; light flares illuminating the statues and the spinning wheel. All whirling under the otherwise still and serene tropical starry night.
I found it so visually appealing, a ready artwork;
and so symbolically meaningful at the same time! Buddhist philosophy tells us that in its essence the nature of reality is peaceful and harmonious, all is still, and it' only our restless minds that keep creating all sorts of ups and downs, successes, failures and that endless spinning movement that is our life. Isn't this exactly like that carousel in the midst of a peaceful, starlit temple...
The drawing is in graphite on fine Clairfontaine paper. Titled and signed on the front underneath the image.
