This is the first painting of a triptych called The Quiet Hours - a turquoise world where roses arrive slowly, one panel at a time.

Here, in the first hour, there is only one. A single rose, almost weightless, opening into soft turquoise. Branches drift around it without destination. Leaves fall where they fall. Nothing is arranged, nothing is hurried. The bare linen shows through in places - the quiet ground beneath the colour.

I wanted this one to feel like the early morning, before the day asks anything of you. One rose is not a beginning waiting for more. It is already complete.
