This sepia-toned black and white photograph captures a lone tree standing quietly on the Isle of Skye, set beneath the dramatic presence of the Cuillin Hills. Nestled at the foot of the Cuillin Ridge, the tree has a striking, almost bonsai-like symmetry. Though it appears strong and sculptural, it is in fact quite petite — its modest scale adding to the sense of delicacy and quiet resilience.

The softened sepia tones lend the image a timeless quality, emphasising form, balance, and stillness rather than place alone. The relationship between the small tree and the vast mountains behind it creates a gentle tension, drawing the eye between intimacy and scale.

This image is also available in pure black and white or in colour, should you prefer an alternative interpretation of the scene. It can be produced on fine art paper or canvas, and in other sizes on request.

Thoughtful and understated, this piece is a meditation on solitude, balance, and the quiet beauty found in small details within a grand landscape.
