The Miner Family (2026) Original Oil Painting by Steffan Johnson

Inspired by the ''Miner family'' sculpture by Robert Thomas's at Tonypandy in the Rhondda, South Wales.

South Wales' landscape and heritage will be forever impacted and scared by the hardworking miners and their families. This is a homage and a small acknowledgement to their history and legacy. My Dadcu (Grandfather in Welsh) worked the mines before going into work in a tool making factory. I wish I had found out more about his work and working conditions.

I hope I've done Robert Thomas' sculpture some justice. It really does capture the rugged and hard lives they led to put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
