Original artwork description
The Island of Light is part of my ongoing exploration of landscape as a language of perception rather than geography.
Although inspired by the dramatic coastline of Madeira, this painting is not intended to document a specific place. Instead, it investigates how light reshapes memory, dissolves form, and transforms architecture into atmosphere. Mountains, ocean, and human presence become interconnected through color and movement, creating a landscape that exists somewhere between observation and recollection.
Working with palette knives and thick layers of oil paint, I build the surface as a living structure rather than a smooth image. Every textured mark catches light differently, allowing the painting to change throughout the day and creating a constantly evolving visual experience.
For me, light is not simply illumination—it is the force that organizes space, reveals emotion, and gives the landscape its identity. In this work, geography becomes secondary. What remains is the emotional map created by color, rhythm, and memory.
This is an original oil painting on canvas, created entirely by hand with professional-grade oil paints. It is a one-of-a-kind artwork, signed by the artist, and is not a print or reproduction.
