Original artwork description
The Horse Who Dreamed of the Sacré-Cœur is an original gouache painting inspired by a carousel in Montmartre, Paris. The work captures the strange and poetic atmosphere of a fairground horse facing the silhouette of the Sacré-Cœur, as if the painted animal were dreaming of reaching the basilica above the city.
I was interested in the contrast between childhood, movement, architecture, and illusion. The carousel horse belongs to a world of play and repetition, while the Sacré-Cœur appears almost like a distant vision, quiet, monumental, and unreachable.
The style combines expressive figurative painting with an atmospheric treatment of light, color, and urban memory. Rather than painting a simple Parisian view, I wanted to create a scene that feels suspended between reality and dream: a small poetic moment found inside the movement of the city.
