The Girl in Cultural Frames (African) is part of a series exploring how cultural structures shape personal identity — each work placing a female figure within an ornamental system drawn from a different cultural tradition.

This work integrates the figure into a geometric system inspired by African symbolic patterns — a visual language that has shaped social norms and collective identity for centuries. The composition reflects on the tension between inherited cultural expectations and the desire for personal freedom: even when traditional frameworks lose their original purpose, they continue to influence how we see ourselves and how we move through the world.

Through geometric clarity and symbolic minimalism, the work questions which cultural "frames" support us — and which quietly limit us.

This is one of two works completed in the Cultural Frames series. The second work has already been sold. The series will not be continued, making this the only remaining piece from a body of work that explored cultural identity across different traditions. Its collector value reflects both the depth of the concept and its singular status within the practice.

Exhibited at "Senses" art fair, Rome, Italy, 2023, and "Secret Spaces – Borders", Venice, Italy, 2023.
Featured in interview for Itsliquid Group, 2023.
