Original artwork description:

The baroque style frame casts a juxtaposition with the contemporary style of the painting itself. In the painting, a maze exists between the two silhouetted figures, who seek one another through a number of uniquely shaped obstacles. It is symbolic of the difficulties in human connection— that in seeking to connect with one another we are sometimes faced with internal barriers and manifestations of fear and bitterness wrought by life’s many thorns. The piece suggests that the act of human connection is a difficult, vulnerable, and sometimes perilous obstacle. It is a problem as old as humanity, and it links historical man to contemporary man. Thus, the juxtaposition of the old-style picture frame and the contemporary painting reveals the timeless struggle that is true connection. A hope exists here, though… The piece might ask: Can we imagine a world in which the two figures meet?
