Original artwork description
THE CATFISH OF GALATEA is a sculpture carved from calabash wood, part of the CalbinoOz series, featuring whimsical and offbeat art.
In Greek mythology, Galatea is one of the Nereids (sea nymphs), daughter of Nereus and Doris. She lives on a shore in Sicily. Her name means ‘with skin as white as milk’ (derived from γάλα / gála, meaning ‘milk’)
The CalbinoOz series received the Jury Prize in the Sculpture category at the 28th edition of the Chambourcy Arts Fair.
This sculpture was created by working with genuine light-coloured calabash wood, filled with clay balls to weigh it down, as calabashes are hollow and their wood is light.

One-off piece, signed near one of the legs.
Approximate dimensions: W 65 x H 17 x D 30 cm
