- The Answer Is Blowin' In The Wind
Original artwork description
If you Google 'Plastic Bag' and 'American Beauty' the lyrics of Bob Dylan's most famous song become abundantly clear. Some might argue that Dylan's lyrics are a bit more deep and meaningful than the antics of a plastic bag in an award winning 1999 film, but, in the end, what does this famous chorus actually mean? Adapted from the Negro Spiritual 'No More Auction Block' the sentiments are all rather metaphysical (aren't all songs?). 'Yes, and how many years can a mountain exist before it is washed to the sea? Yes, and how many years can some people exist before they're allowed to be free? Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn't see?' I hate to disappoint anyone but the answer to these three questions is not blowin', or even blowing, in the wind. Dylan claims to have written the song in 10 mins and that it can 'mean anything to anyone.' Phew. That's all right then. Bob, in the film American Beauty, what is the plastic bag doing, sorry, doin' ?
