This study, painted en plein air on a bright sunny day, captures the transitional period of a winter day during a thaw. The painting focuses on the atmospheric depth created by the moist air, which simplifies the background, revealing brightly lit trees with leaves not yet fully fallen, while simultaneously highlighting the tree and the almost mirror-like surface of a thawed patch in the foreground. A bright strip of still-unmelted snow in the background recalls a recent heavy snowfall. Using a rich, harmonious palette and complex color combinations, I sought to capture this unique atmospheric phenomenon and the beauty of nature as the cold retreats in the heart of winter.

The presented work was created in the open air (from the French «Plein air").
