Original artwork description
Zakhar Shevchuk’s Temptation (Seated woman with one bare breast) is a vivid record of rebellion. Painted in 2019, it began as a classical nude study with a live model, but the artist abandoned faithful representation in favor of expressive freedom. The model’s body remains present, yet dissolved in strokes of unnatural color. Toxic greens, piercing pinks, and stark black dominate the composition, openly challenging academic rules.
Facial features are blurred, making the sitter more symbol than subject. Instead of identity, the painting conveys mood: charged, provocative, and unrestrained. This was part of Shevchuk’s brief post-academic rebellion, during which he experimented with form, color, and materials in search of a new language. That experimentation soon became his signature, carried into his mature works.
For collectors, this painting stands as both a striking nude and an important milestone. It preserves the urgency of youthful protest while hinting at the stylistic breakthroughs to come.
