HANDMADE IMAGE TRANSFER PRINT

I wanted to make my painterly photographic prints into something more special and hands on. After research I came upon a method known as image transfer printing making and knew it was what I had been looking for. I source the materials from the USA. After a frustrating time having to wait for a pigment ink printer due to Covid I began the painstaking process of discovering how to successfully lay my prints on to various papers.

The process is very involved compared to straightforward digital printing, and the success of the final print will depend on factors such as room temperature , exact timing before lifting the transfer sheet and paper type. Each print will be slightly different as I hand deckle or distress the edge of the image before transferring it to the substrate, in this case, paper. I think the softer edge lends itself to the feel of the print and gives it an extra hand made touch. the end result is a unique hand laid print.

Materials used:

pigment inks and paper transfer sheet
