The seemingly bare atmosphere and warm, muted colors that describe the uncertain light of morning, caress the imaginary figures of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare as they embrace the Crucifix, a miraculous witness to the encounter between the Lord Jesus and the young Francis during the years of his conversion (1206). This relic of Franciscan history marked the life of St. Francis, and St. Clare also prayed before it for the rest of her days in the claustration of San Damiano. In this oil painting, I wanted to capture the profound emotion of sacrifice and faith, using soft brushstrokes. The faces express struggle and hope, while the cross becomes a symbol of inner strength. The work conveys an intense tension and an invitation to look beyond pain, bringing a spiritual energy that enriches any environment.
