Tahquitz Canyon, Early Morning (2025) Original Painting by Catherine Twomey

This was painted en plein air (outside) at Aqua Caliente Indian Reservation, Palm Springs, CA. I hiked up the trail three times to capture it the way I wanted. It's such a beautiful, peaceful place - and the light! The shadows! Exquisite. At first I was too focused on the details, then I backed off and delved into the light and the shadows. The pigments are fused with the Aquabord, making this a Contemporary Fresco. It is varnished and does not need glass.
