I traditionally paint irises that I grew myself in my own garden. Because these flowers fade so quickly, I had to capture them from life in a single, breathless session. I wanted to translate their extreme tenderness into a state of pure simplicity and harmony.

To help me lock into this creative frequency, my studio was filled with a soundtrack of the 1960s—The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Cream, Kinks, Who and The Rolling Stones. This music creates the right mindset in the studio, making it easier to catch the rhythm and paint freely. In "Summer Flowers Irises", the vibrant, fluid bouquet in a translucent vase merges with a dreamlike horizon and a tiny, solitary house. By leaving the canvas texture breathing beneath soft pastel washes, the piece captures a fleeting moment, transforming a simple floral still life into a calm, melodic reflection on time and nature.
