Summer is my favourite time of the year. With the beautiful flowers and long days, I get a lot of time to paint them in their natural settings. I love painting the peony, and I paint them as much as I can while they bloom.
This large painting was painted from life in my garden on one such summer evening. My focus was to bring out the layered structure of these flowers, so I went with a rather simplified and muted background.
The painting features rich and bold brushwork, expressively painted with artist quality oil paints.
