Summer Breath of Yellow Blooms (2026) Original Watercolour by Yurii Prysiazhnyi

23 x 31 x 0.1cm (unframed)

£340.49

This original, expressive watercolor capture of yellow roses was painted en plein air amidst the historic beauty of the Krefeld Botanical Garden in Germany. Created during a live summer workshop with my watercolor students, this piece embodies the vibrant energy and spontaneous decisions of working directly from nature.

It was an exceptionally hot midsummer day. The Krefeld rose garden, boasting over 3,000 roses, offered endless visual inspiration, but nature decided to test our resilience. I set up my easel to paint a couple of glowing yellow blooms, but the sun was moving incredibly fast. The cool shade from the surrounding old-growth trees kept shifting, and within minutes, my entire setup was plunged into direct, blazing sunlight. To prevent the paint from drying instantly on the paper, I had to physically chase the cool spots, constantly adjusting my position and painting stance.

While I originally planned a light, delicate watercolor, the harsh glare of the sun forced a dramatic creative pivot. I abandoned my initial sketch to build deep, rich, multi-layered background washes. The resulting deep emerald and blue undertones contrast beautifully against the sun-drenched yellow petals, creating a piece with far more atmospheric depth and emotional weight than I had originally anticipated. This painting stands as a testament to the ultimate rule of plein air: nature is a living teacher that demands flexibility, quick decision-making, and creative courage.

SIZE: 31 x 23 cm / 12.2 x 9.1 inches., signed in the front. The work has a white border for mounting and framing.

TECHNIQUE & MATERIALS: The artwork is original and done with professional watercolor paints on 300 gr 100% cotton acid-free Hahnemühle watercolor paper, which secures its long life (if kept in good storage conditions away from the sun).

FRAMING & PACKAGING: Sold without frame. Frame is added only for preview
