Stonehenge Sunrise (2024)Linocut

Stonehenge Sunrise is quite ironic for me. For years as a Police Officer in Wiltshire I had to get up at a ridiculous time in the morning to be at Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice, so I have seen several sunrises over the stones. The truth of it was, that as the sun came up and the sky filled with colour, you forgot that your shift had started at 4am.

I have been lucky enough to visit several other stone circles but keep returning to Stonehenge and Avebury when it comes to making my artwork. I think it’s because when I am working on them they trigger memories of sunrises at Stonehenge and Avebury and some lovely moments with both colleagues and the people voluntarily at the stones.
