The idea behind this series is to move away from the traditional understanding of landscapes as simple images of nature. Each work should be viewed as a combination of three elements: an image, a keyword, and a title.
The image/landscape conveys a feeling.
The keyword is a thought.
The title provides context.
When a keyword is added to the “mood of the landscape,” there is a shift in perception. The word acts as a key that unlocks a certain chain of thoughts. It sets the tone and emotional emphasis for interpreting the image.
In this painting, the viewer must find the word “Ruhe,” which means “calm” in German.
The title of the painting is the third element of this triad. It can provide a philosophical or personal context for interpretation. Combined with the image and the key word, the title creates a unified structure that begins to form in the viewer's mind.
