Original artwork description
There is a freshness about a spring day in Zeeland in the southern Netherlands that you only get when you are near the sea. When I painted this painting on location between the coastal towns of Breskens and Terneuzen, the trees and the ploughed fields were mostly still bare and there was a chill wind blowing off the sea beyond the dyke. However, the warmth of the sun and clouds forming to create spring showers will soon bring new leaf growth and the first tender shoots through the soil.
