Spring Light is an atmospheric abstract seascape created at Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris in Scotland's Outer Hebrides.

Using intentional camera movement, I softened the landscape into sweeping layers of turquoise, aquamarine, ivory and deep Atlantic blue. The pale sands and extraordinary clear waters of Luskentyre seem almost to merge, leaving only the suggestion of shoreline and distant land.

I wanted to capture the particular freshness of spring in the Hebrides — that moment when the light begins to strengthen and the sea suddenly appears impossibly luminous. Rather than recording the landscape literally, the movement of the camera allows colour, light and memory to become the subject.

Peaceful yet uplifting, Spring Light is particularly striking as a large statement artwork, where the horizontal movement creates a wonderful feeling of space.

Smaller sizes are printed on museum-quality fine art paper, with larger works available on archival canvas. Bespoke sizes and complimentary room mock-ups are available on request.
