Original artwork description:

Spring in the vale, Dorset

Dusky pink and peach sky,
Muted woodland,
Quiet pastures,
Some buttercups appearing,
Relaxing walk.

Words and thoughts of a rustic area of the Blackmore vale of North Dorset. Where I grew up and experienced the simple way of life and living in the countryside.
Original impressionist watercolour on extra rough textured watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb.
I used a wet on wet technique for the background and back washes. Then I applied the woodland backdrop using a scrubbing technique by pressing the paint into the paper whilst wet. I kept repeating with this method until I was happy with the buildup of colours. I created a baseline underneath the woods and then with my sable hair brush I went over the washes from the sky adding a mint green plus grey shades over dusky pink. I used my small handmade Chinese brush for the buttercup detail.
I recently painted this scene and it is signed, dated and titled on the back of the artwork.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 300gsm 140lb, Windsor and newton watercolours, sable hair brush, filbert brush, small handmade Chinese brush,
