The sunlit snow is what first drew me on to this scene. I had been deep into a studio piece that day, unable to break away, even though the winter light outside was calling me. By late afternoon I finally gave in, grabbed my camera, and headed up to the park.

The trees were standing in perfect winter stillness, casting long, cool shadows across the bright snow. That contrast—the warm sun lighting up the landscape and the blue shadows stretching gently across it—was all it took. I knew I had to paint this scene.

This piece is my attempt to capture that moment, the crisp air, and the sense of wonder that comes when sunlight transforms a simple snowy hillside into something extraordinary. I hope you feel some of what I felt standing there, taking it all in.
