Zakhar Shevchuk’s Sitting Nude (2017) exemplifies painting as direct response. Initially planned as a large, formal canvas, the work was instead executed spontaneously on MDF, using heavy impasto techniques and an unfiltered approach. The artist worked with brushes, knives, and hands to translate sensation directly into paint.

The nude figure glows with tonal complexity, its flesh rendered through vigorous strokes of ivory, ochre, and rose. The surrounding atmosphere is equally dynamic, more suggestion than setting, allowing the body to appear as if suspended in air and light. This urgency reflects Shevchuk’s desire to preserve the very first impression of the body, the moment of truth that precedes analysis or refinement.
