Silver Tide Awakening is a contemporary abstract painting inspired by the quiet power of water, light, and open coastal landscapes. In this work, I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when the sky brightens after a long stretch of clouds and the world seems to awaken in layers of silver, blue, ivory, and soft earth tones.
Created in 2026, this original acrylic painting was built through multiple layers of texture using palette knives, brushes, scraping techniques, and expressive gestural marks. Shades of soft sky blue, ivory, pearl white, cool gray, charcoal, black, and warm ochre interact across the surface, creating depth, movement, and luminous reflections.
As I worked on the painting, I was fascinated by the dialogue between light and shadow. Broad passages of pale blue and white suggest openness and air, while darker areas of charcoal and black create visual anchors that bring strength and structure to the composition. Touches of ochre introduce warmth and organic energy, reminiscent of coastal grasses and weathered shoreline textures.
The heavily textured surface changes throughout the day as natural light moves across it, revealing subtle details, layered brushwork, and delicate transitions between colors. From a distance, the painting conveys a sense of calm expansiveness; up close, it reveals a rich landscape of textures and painterly gestures.
