Saltlight on Sand captures one of those fleeting moments when the edge of the sea seems to hold the light. Created on the remote shores of Orkney as part of my Seafoam and Salt collection, the photograph follows the gentle retreat of the tide as warm golden light settles across wet sand and delicate traces of seafoam.

Soft sea-green, silver, charcoal and muted gold mingle across the surface, while the fine patterns left by the water give the image an almost painterly quality. There is something wonderfully elemental about this meeting of sea, sand and light — a landscape continually being erased and remade by the tide.

The photograph is printed on exquisite Canson Aquarelle Rag fine art paper, chosen especially for its beautiful watercolour texture. The softly textured surface enhances the shimmering light, subtle tonal variations and intricate patterns of foam, giving the photograph the tactile quality of a watercolour while retaining the detail and luminosity of the original image.
