SAND RAINBOW (2019)Acrylic painting by Frank Barnes

‘SAND RAINBOW’ is an acrylic painting developed from observations of the expansive beach landscape of Sefton U.K. where I live and in particular the dramatic beach skies seen at dawn and twilight. The painting is expressive and gestural, not a painted replica of a photograph, hopefully reflecting the extensive colour palette of the sky at twilight. The twilight beach photographs taken by Aly Linaker and Sharon Barnes inspired the painting. Along the beach towards a nature reserve there used to be wooden jetties and moorings which extended to the sea from the beach. In the winter of 2015 exceptionally high tides finally swept the jetties away. The painting makes a reference to the jetties. I’ve been walking this beach daily for many years. I like the peace it gives me to start the day. I am also always inspired by the work of the Fauvists and the Expressionists together with modernists Gillian Ayres, Howard Hodgkin, Patrick Heron, David Hockney and John Hoyland.
“SAND RAINBOW” is an acrylic painting on 300gms canvas paper. It is 40cms wide and 30cms in height. It is presented/shipped in an ivory card window mount (see pictures) 50x40cms at a cost of £250, not including postage. The mounted painting is shipped in a reinforced card folder.
The painting can also be purchased in a white glazed frame 53x43cms (see pictures) at a cost of £275 + postage. Postage for the framed / glazed picture in the U.K. is £20
