SACRIFICE — where the journey begins
There are moments in the studio when a painting asks for something deeper… a letting go… a quiet surrender.
Sacrifice was one of those moments.
This piece did not come easily. It asked me to release control, to trust the process, and to allow something more spiritual to move through the work. As the layers built—rich purples, earth tones, and touches of gold leaf—a solitary feminine presence began to emerge, standing in stillness before a form of light.
For me, this painting became the beginning of a transformation.
Not loss… but offering.
Not ending… but opening.
Created in my Dorset studio using layered acrylic, textured techniques, and hand-applied gold leaf, the surface holds both depth and luminosity. As the light shifts across it, different elements quietly reveal themselves—inviting the viewer into their own moment of reflection.
This is a piece to sit with… to return to… to feel.
Part of a larger journey
Sacrifice is the first painting in The Maria Magdalena Series—a collection of four works that unfolded over time as a quiet exploration of transformation.
Each painting represents a stage along that path:
Sacrifice, Ascension, Illumination, and Love.
While each work stands complete on its own, the series was conceived as a continuous visual meditation and may be collected together while all works remain available.
