This painting shows a wide sunrise breaking over a dark mountain line, with the sun low at center and rays fanning into the sky. Broad clouds sweep diagonally across the canvas in deep violet, amber, rust, and gold, set against expansive blue. The foreground remains in shadow, while the painted gallery-wrap canvas extends the image cleanly to the edges. A glorious new day is welcomed by the sunrise over the mountains. This painting is part of my "Above the Horizon" series of paintings that were inspired by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that I saw when I lived in the desert southwest.
