Ripon rooftops to the Cathedral - 2016
This piece captures a striking view from the rooftops of Market Place, looking across Kirkgate and beyond to the majestic Ripon Cathedral.

Nestled near the heart of Yorkshire’s West Riding, the city of Ripon rises gently between the rivers Ure and Skell. A place of deep history, there has been a stone church on the cathedral site since 672 AD—today’s building is the fourth to stand there, officially designated a cathedral in 1836.

Finding the right viewpoint for this print was a journey in itself. I climbed ladders, wandered backstreets, and even knocked on doors asking to peek through top-floor windows. Eventually, I found the perfect vantage—one that brought together the rooftops, chimneys, and skyline I’d been searching for. My thanks to those kind enough to let me in!

Printed in a traditional colour palette, the cathedral rises proudly above the historic streets of Ripon, just as it has for centuries—visible for miles and full of quiet grandeur.

This is a 13-colour, hand-pulled screen print, A1 in size, produced in a limited edition of just 27

Materials used:

Italian Canaletto Bianco 300gms paper, Acrylic paint
