Rhythms of the Motherland – Original Acrylic Painting on Canvas (Unstretched, Ships Rolled)

A visual symphony of heritage, spirit, and geometry.
This original acrylic artwork is a vibrant tribute to African memory, symbolism, and spiritual continuity. Blending abstract cubism with Afro-futurist geometry, the piece intertwines tradition and modernity, creating a bold and soulful visual experience.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT/ INSPIRATION

At the centre of the composition lies a circular mandala rhythm, crafted from interwoven African motifs such as cowrie shells or sea shells, symbols of wealth, protection, femininity, and divine connection. These forms radiate outward like a heartbeat, echoing the pulse of the Motherland.

Grounding the artwork is my signature spiral coil, a recurring element in my work. In many African cultures, the spiral represents:
● Life’s continuous journey
● Cycles of nature and time
● Energy moving between the physical and spiritual worlds

Layered geometric shapes, textured surfaces, and subtle tonal transitions evoke movement, ritual, and cosmic harmony, capturing the rhythm of ancestors, earth, and future.
