Original artwork description
What does rest mean to you? Contemplating rest, I realised that it means bright, bold colours which energise and soothe me, nature scenes and daily, weekly rhythms of everyday rest. This is a scene of Spring time Rhoddedendrons in a local nature reserve. Rhodedendrons were apparently planted in Victorian country houses which are now local beauty spots run by charities or trusts. Their huge flowers bring a pop of colour in a bright spring green symphony. My mind sometimes travels when painting and the palette becomes exaggerated which I find very soothing. The colour palette is purple, pink, orange, blue, with pops of emerald and lime green, juxtaposed against a blue-grey brooding springtime sky. The mark making is expressive and gestural.
