This is from a trip to Neuvic in Correze, France. Correze is a very quiet and tranquil part of the country; I'd walked a couple of hours without encountering another soul. Among the trees and river were many abandoned sections of pipe and then I came across an old abandoned industrial building - the remains of an ancient hydroelectric industry that was probably in use during the late 19th/early 20th century.

Just across from the decaying building was this crossing point over a smaller tributary of the river, and what I assume would have been an old sluice gate to control the water. It became the inspiration for this impressionist oil painting.
The painting is on canvasboard (canvas attached to board) and has been left over a year before receiving a coat of gloss varnish.

Materials used:

Oil paints (Rembrandt, Old Holland, Winsor & Newton, Gamblin, lefranc & bourgeois)
