"Reflections by the Bridge" beautifully captures a tranquil moment by the water, where the bridge and surrounding greenery are mirrored in the still surface below. The painting is a study in light and reflection, with soft blues and greens creating a harmonious palette. The ripples on the water and the subtle textures in the foliage are rendered with confident brushstrokes, bringing a sense of realism and serenity to the scene. The peaceful composition invites the viewer to pause and take in the natural beauty of the setting, offering a quiet moment of contemplation and calm.
This piece was painted on location, where I was drawn to the calm, reflective quality of the water and the dappled light filtering through the trees. Starting with the large shapes of the bridge and reflections, I worked to build a balance between the sharp structure of the man-made bridge and the fluid, organic forms in nature. The oil paint allowed me to layer color, capturing both the solidity of the bridge and the gentle movement in the water’s surface. I used a variety of greens, blues, and subtle yellows to create depth and a sense of distance, aiming to evoke the serenity of this quiet, sunlit scene.
