" The Guardian of the sky " is a sculpture from the Bancos series.
This series consists of unusual ethnic sculptures modeled in wood clay. The proportions and limbs of the figures are deliberately truncated, distorted, disproportionate, and strange, as they convey a symbol of roughness and connection to the earth. The banco is a basic material used in the walls of many African huts: it is made from local earth mixed with water and crushed straw, sometimes with a little dung.
In a relaxed sitting position, he gazes at the sky.
The rusty bronze, earth-colored appearance is not just an illusion: each sculpture is surprisingly heavy!
