Some paintings begin with an idea. This one began with a tiny dog.
While a friend was travelling, I looked after her Chihuahua. He was incredibly sweet and had one funny habit—he loved sitting inside handbags, as if he was always packed and ready to go.
I couldn't resist painting that moment. More than a portrait, this work captures his curious spirit and the joy he brought into the studio. It is one of those everyday memories that turned into art.
